Konyak Union Myanmar (KUM) has appealed to the government of India to reconsider its decision to end the Free Movement Regime (FMR) and fence border at the India-Myanmar border. KUM president PM Aman and general secretary K Akham Honwang stated that the Konyaks, who were residing along the “artificial borderline” between India and Myanmar, would never accept the move under any condition. KUM reminded that boundary demarcation was done without the knowledge of their ancestors though they were land owner.
KUM said Konyaks as land owners would never allow fencing under any circumstance and would stand firm against the policy. KUM, therefore, appealed to the government of India to restore the free movement regime.
Organisations of Eastern Konyak people (Myanmar) including Chen Area Students’ Union Myanmar (CASUM) and Konyak Union Myanmar (KUM) urged the government of India to honour the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) adopted on December 10, 1948 and the Protection of Human Rights Act. (PHRA) and (Amendment) Act 2006.
KUM appreciated the Nagaland state government for opposing FMR as it would divide the Nagas.
KUM also appreciated the Naga organisations including NSF, RPP, Global Naga Forum (GNF) and NSCN/GPRN (I-M) for standing with them.
