Sano Vamuzo, founder of Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA), has been conferred the prestigious Padma Shri at the Republic Day honors for her impactful contributions. Born on March 27, 1940, Sano navigated educational challenges, excelling in various schools in Nagaland. Her academic journey led to degrees from Guwahati University, Bombay University, and NEHU, who went to serve as State Organizing Commissioner (G), Bharat Scouts & Guides Nagaland, Kohima, 1972, and later as its Vice President for several years.
Professionally, she made significant strides in education, heading schools in Kohima, and contributing as a lecturer in Baptist College. Sano was honored with Navjyoti Award for social services from Delhi Police Foundation. It was a testament for outstanding achievement in social services for the youth and the establishment of NMA. Beyond education and advocacy, she served as the first chairperson of Nagaland State Commission for women and actively supported her husband, late Vamuzo, in his political career. Expressing concerns for Naga society’s challenges, Sano emphasizes resolution through divine wisdom and leadership initiatives.
NMA fetes Sano Vamuzo: Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has congratulated Sano Vamuzo, founder member and advisor, NMA on being conferred the Padma Shri Award 2024 for her distinguished service in the field of Social work.
In a congratulatory note, NMA said Sano Vamuzo has a long list of achievements to her credit as a social worker, including being appointed as the first chairperson of the Nagaland State Commission for Women, founder member, first president and now advisor of NMA.
