Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan Scheme (SUMAN) was launched at Community Health Centre (CHC) Aghunato under the aegis of District Health Society (DHS) Zunheboto on January 30.
A press release by health department Zunheboto informed that while launching the SUMAN facility, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Aghunato, Pakon Phom highlighted the vision of SUMAN, which was to achieve zero maternal and infant death through quality care with dignity and respect.
Phom said the objective was to assure dignified, respectful and quality healthcare at no cost and maintain zero tolerance for denial of service to women and new-born visiting the healthcare.
In a keynote address, DPO (UIP&RCH) Zunheboto, Dr. Heto Swu gave a brief introduction of SUMAN and informed that beneficiaries comprise of pregnant women, mothers up to six months post-delivery and sick infants.
An initiative of the central government for zero preventable maternal and new-born death, he said SUMAN aims to achieve the target of reducing maternal and infant mortality. He said that SUMAN was a collaboration and collective of all the existing programs such as Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK) and Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan (PMSMA).
The launching programme was chaired by Medical Officer (MO) CHC Aghunato, Dr. Rika Sumi; welcome address was delivered by SMO CHC Aghunato, Dr. Heroto Yeptho, and vote of thanks by Rosemary Vitoli.
