As a prelude to the year-long activities to commemorate the 50th golden jubilee, the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) organised a jubilee marathon race from Kohima High School junction till Assembly Secretariat junction under the theme “Learning is Marathon.”
670 students from 49 school within Kohima town took part in the event.
Advisor of School Education & SCERT Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, flagged off the marathon. He acknowledged the role of NBSE and said that the board was one of the first in the country to conduct assessments for language, skills, learning, and speaking.
Yhome said NBSE was also the first board to include both the father and mother’s name in the report card. He congratulated the NBSE in celebrating 50 years and pointed out that the board was among the sister organizations of school education and emphasized the significance of recognizing NBSE.
Yhome also recalled that 105 years ago, Dr. Neilhouzhü Kire became the first Naga matriculate. He said during those days, there was no written history until recently, with the ability to learn and read, acquiring pass certificate from NBSE has become a proud moment for everyone as education has become an important tool.
NBSE chairman, Asano Sekhose in her speech, reminisced about the past when NBSE was established through an act of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly on November 15, 1973 and the board commenced its operations in October 1974. She said the board has achieved a significant milestone and expressed gratitude to the government of Nagaland, the Department of School Education, and both past and present affiliated schools for their contribution during the board’s journey.
Reflecting on NBSE’s journey from humble beginnings, she noted that the board had overcome various challenges to maintain high standards while acknowledging the past achievements. She also acknowledged that there was still much to accomplish and emphasized the need to define activities and align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Commissioner & Secretary School Education, Kevileno Angami, expressed appreciation on behalf of the state, that despite the challenges, NBSE has evolved into a board and has been recognized in the North East and mentioned that other North East states sought assistance from NBSE.
