Advisor of Water Resources, Tongpang Ozukum on Tuesday said that state government was trying to “scale down government employees”, as major portion of development funds have been utilized in payment of salaries. Tongpang was speaking as the special guest at the “1st Mega Job Expo, 2024” organised by Mokokchung District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) and District Skill Committee (DSC) under the theme, “Connecting Careers” at Fazl Ali College (FAC) Mokokchung.
Though Nagaland is a small state, he said the ratio indicates that the state has the highest government employees and employment in the government sector has reached the saturation point. He therefore urged the youth to seek different opportunities provided by private sectors since equal opportunities were provided by them.
Tongpang also lauded the initiative of the District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) and termed the 1st Mega Job Expo as significant and important initiative.
He thanked the business houses, recruiters and prominent financial institutions for responding positively for the event. Tongpang further added that the event was an opportunity for the educated youth to move out from their comfort zone and hone their skills and find placements of their choice offered by the private sectors, as jobs in government sector has been saturated.
Earlier, delivering the welcome note, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung and chairman, planning committee, Thsuvisie Phoji, informed that there were 28 companies (recruiters and financers) with three from outside the state and one foreign company under the initiative of IDAN & BAN will be offering job opportunities to the unemployed youths at the two-day mega expo.
He said around 1500 registered job seekers, aspiring entrepreneurs and skill exhibitors from different districts of the state, namely 45 from Shamator, 35 from Mon, etc, turned out for the event.
In his key note address, secretary of the planning committee, Er. T Imlisunep Ao said that the expo has been designed to encompass three pivotal components –“enthusiastic job seekers, aspiring entrepreneurs, skilful exhibitors”.
The programme was hosted by Dr Limasenla Jamir and short speeches were delivered by vice principal, FAC, Vinod Kumar; president, BAN, Mongkum Jamir and Japanese Teacher, Arms Nagaland Centre, Takumi Ishiwatari, and member, planning committee P. Tiatemsu delivered the vote of thanks.
It may be noted that Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Business Association of Nagas (BAN) and FAC Mokokchung were the partners for the mega job expo. The primary objective of the job expo was to facilitate employment opportunities for unemployed youths of the state. The expo also aims to bring employers and job seekers together on a common platform to promote job opportunities.
