Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) has expressed dismay that a “particular tribe” had recently called for a meeting on February 2, vis-à-vis formation of an apex body of Nagaland, without prior consultation with the council and Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN).
While stating that the two organizations were not invited for meeting, the council said such “unilateral decision” was perceived as a departure from the collaborative spirit that had been the hallmark of previous discussions. In this regard, CNTC appealed that no such steps should be taken without consultation in the near future to avoid confusion.
CNTC recalled that in a historic development, representatives from eight Naga tribes, in conjunction with the CNTC and TUN, had convened a pivotal meeting on November 21, 2023. Attended by deputy CMs– TR Zeliang and Y Patton, along with minsters G Kaito Aye and KG Kenye, adviser Imkong L Imchen and advisor to CM Dr. Chumben Murry, they said the meeting unanimously resolved to forge a common platform.
It said that the eight tribal entities, under the collaborative banner of CNTC and TUN, resolved to take progressive steps towards the establishment of an apex body. Such a move was seen as a crucial stride towards fostering unity and collective representation for the Naga community in Nagaland, CNTC said.
