Trainings on ‘piggery’ for rural youths in Longleng, Mokokchung

A five-day skill development training programme on “piggery for entrepreneurship development” for rural youth organised by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) – Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Longleng culminated on February 5 at KVK Longleng Office.
A press release by KVK Longleng stated that the training covered topics such as breed selection, selection of breeding stock, general management, sanitation, scientific housing and feeding, disease management, economic livelihood, integrated farming system and challenges for pig farming.
The training was initiated by ACTO KVK, Dr. Lily Ngullie with assistant professor, department of economics, Yingli College, Longleng, Lochumbeni Shitiri as the resource person.
At the valedictory programme, senior scientist and head KVK Longleng, Dr. H.C. Kalita encouraged the participants to take up piggery for sustainable livelihood and income generation. The training attended by 27 rural youth concluded with vote of thanks by STO, KVK Longleng, Yuimi Raising.


Mokokchung: A six-day Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) program on “piggery rearing and management” by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Mokokchung in association with State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema and National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad concluded on February 3 at Community Hall, Longjang Village, Kubolong Block, Mokokchung.
A press release by ATMA Mokokchung stated that the training was aimed to impart the necessary skills to enhance the ability and opportunities of income generation and sustainable livelihood of rural youths on livestock based vocational areas and hence have access to improved standard of living by facilitating their growth as entrepreneurs in pig rearing.
At the inaugural programme, deputy project director, ATMA, Mokokchung, Sentinaro Longchar stressed on the main objective of the program to empower the youths of rural areas with adequate skills set that will enable their employment in relevant sectors and also improve productivity.
The resource persons were farm manager, State Pig Breeding Centre, Merangkong, Tuli, Dr. Toshiwati, and farm manager, State cattle breeding Centre, Aliba, New Camp, Dr. Nemjemyanger.
The resource persons delved into a wide range of topics covering selection of site and housing of pig sty, selection of breed and breeding management, feeding of pigs, common diseases in pigs, farm biosecurity, vaccination and deworming, disease reporting and outbreak management, and economics of pig farming, all tailored to enhance their skills and maximize swine production.
Altogether 16 participants from Longjang village and ATMA staff attended the training.
