Chakhesang wrestling meet on Feb 9

Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) is scheduled to hold its 29th Wrestling Championship and 3rd Under 16 Meet 2024 on February 9, at Chozuba town, under Phek district.
Informing this during a press conference at Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) complex, CWA president, Vekhozo Ringa, said preparations for the championship was on full swing.
He informed that deputy CM, Y Patton will be the special guest while advisor, CAWD & Taxes, Kudecho Khamo will be the guest of honour during the championship. Special invitees will include all the legislators under Phek district along with presidents of Sumi and Pochury Hohos.


Ringa informed that this year CWA has enhanced the champion’s prize money to Rs. 2.5 lakh, an increase of Rs. 50,000 from previous editions. He disclosed that CWA was expecting a good turnout of players even in the Under 16 category from all over the Phek district.
The championship will be managed by Chozuba Town Baptist Church and around 15,000 to 17,000 seats will be arranged. Tickets will be priced at Rs. 2,000 for donors, Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 300 will be for chairs and Rs. 150 for gallery.
Chozuba town is located at around 70 Kms away from the state capital with a travel time of about 90 minutes.
General secretary CWA, Kuzhovesa Soho informed spectators to put up their mobile number on the windshield in order to avoid wasting time by making the announcers call them out in public and waste time.
He also urged the spectators to maintain hygiene and cleanliness within and outside the venue by making use of the garbage bins provided.
He said a new team of office bearers will be installed during the championship while players selected for the NWA meet will also be announced.


For the under 16 category, participants must be born on or after April 1, 2008 and for age determination, only church issued certificate and immunization certificate will be entertained, Soho informed.
The first winner of Pudusa Chizho from Sakraba village in 1968 will hoist the association flag during the championship.
Some of the prominent wrestlers who are expected to vie for the championship includes, reigning NWA and CWA champion and Chokri Area Wrestling champion-Venuzo Dawhuo, Secheku Area champion-Huluyi D Vadeo, Phek Area champion-Kuluvezo Soho, Chozuba Area champ-Venu Vadeo, Pfusato Tetseo, Besuhveto Cumu, Serayi Tetseo, Kuvenu Puro, Vemele Thingo, Basayi Keyho among others. Organisers informed that they would try to ensure a smooth traffic during the event. CWA has extended a warm welcome to all wrestling fans to come and be part of the event.
