United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) on Monday announced the decision of an emergency tripartite meeting to impose indefinite closure of both medical superintendent (MS) office and chief medical officer (CMO) offices Kiphire starting February 12, 2024.
In a representation submitted to the principal director H&FW through the deputy commissioner (DC) Kiphire, the USSC president Sethrongba Y Sangtam and executive chairman Aketo V Sangtam that USSC held an emergency tripartite meeting with its executive, area officials, and Sangtam intellectuals on February 8, 2024 at USSC Head Office Kiphire. USSC said that the meeting discussed issues concerning the non-fulfilment to its demand despite of multiple representations submitted to the directorate of health and family welfare Kohima Nagaland.
Therefore, the house after thorough deliberation unanimously resolved to impose indefinite closure of both MS office and CMO offices Kiphire with effect from February 12, 2024 until the department addressed the requirements including posting of anaesthesiologist, medical officer, X-ray technician, ANMIFHW, staff nurse.
USSC stated that the shortage of manpower has reached alarming levels posing significant risks to the health of common people and forcing them to seek medical care outside the district.
Therefore, USSC has urged the responsible authority to address the required staff at the earliest. Failing to meet the urgent demands, USSC said the department would be solely held responsible and accountable for any citizen’s death resulting from substandard medical care.
