Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) on littering & dumping of waste; issues directives

Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) while reiterating that waste should be disposed either in sanitation vehicles or in designated commercial waste collection points only, has asked concerned authorities to impose penalty on offenders
In a press release, KMC administrator, T Lanusenla Longkumer, while reiterating its office order dated August 16, 2023, cautioned that dumping of waste in drains, vacant plots, blocking of drain and littering during construction activities are all deemed as illegal.
KMC has directed all ward panchayats, councils and ward/colony/sector sanitation committees to check illegal dumping of garbage in drains, littering and blocking of drains during construction.
KMC has informed that following penalty to be realised from offenders – Rs. 1000, Rs. 2000 and Rs. 3000 for first, second and after second offences. It said proper receipt should be issued and record are to be maintained for realising such penalties.
KMC said month wise report was to be intimated to the council on December each year. The council informed that the amount collected may be utilised for meeting sanitation related expenses within the ward, colony, sector.
