The 37th convocation of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Regional Centre Kohima was held at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima on Tuesday. The convocation was also simultaneously held at 39 Regional Centres including Kohima Regional Centre and New Delhi.
Gracing the convocation as guest of honour, director of Higher Education, Dr. A Nshoga congratulated all the successful learners of IGNOU’s Regional Center in Kohima, acknowledging their hard work and dedication in achieving academic milestones.
He described the graduating learners as the torchbearers of tomorrow and encouraged them to utilize the knowledge and skills they have acquired for the greater good.
Dr. Nshoga also highlighted IGNOU’s monumental role in catering to the educational needs of over 3.0 million learners across India and abroad. He commended IGNOU’s efforts in extending higher education learning to marginalized and socio-economically disadvantaged groups, differently-abled persons, and even inmates in correctional facilities nationwide.
He also praised IGNOU’s contributions to various sectors including teaching, research, training, community development, extension activities, and professional development.
Dr. Nshoga further mentioned IGNOU’s adoption of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) well before the announcement of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He highlighted the flexibility provided to learners in choosing their courses and completing them at their own pace, even after intervals.
Dr. Mayonmi Shimray, Regional Director I/c of Indira Gandhi National Open University Kohima, welcomed the attendees and provided insights into the achievements of the Kohima Regional Center. He mentioned that out of the 989 eligible students from the Kohima Regional Centre, there were 723 master’s degrees, 122 bachelor’s degrees, 88 diplomas, and 47 certificates conferred at the convocation. Dr. Shimray highlighted the growth of IGNOU’s Kohima Regional Center from 32 learners in 2001 to over ten thousand learners today, offering a variety of programs.
The event featured experiences shared by learners Ongnetchanger Longkumer, Hekhuli, and Shilpa Bhowmick, with a special song presented by Manini Moro. Assistant Registrar of IGNOU Kohima campus, Kh. Sushil Kumar, delivered the vote of thanks.
