Kisan mela & farmers-scientist interaction at Tening

Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Peren, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Research Complex (RC) for North Eastern Hill (NEH) Region in collaboration with NBPGR, New Delhi organised kisan mela and farmers-scientist interaction programme, and plant genetic resources’ conservation awareness on February 22 at New Town hall, Tening Town.


A press release by KVK Peren informed that guest of honour, principal scientist, ICAR NBPGR, New Delhi, Dr D.P. Samwal, spoke on plant genetic resources and conservation, emphasizing on the importance of kisan mela and its benefits for the farmers’ community.
Special guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Tening, T. Lemlila Sangtam encouraged the farmers’ community to be more sustainable and progressive farmers. She also appreciated the participation of women farmers in the programme.


Sangtam encouraged and emphasised strengthening of the participation by the farmers’ community of Tening in the Farmers’ production organisation (FPO) as well as blending of local farmers’ method and bringing out a comprehensive growth along with scientific research technology.


At the program, Extra Assistant Commissioner (EAC) Tening, Wabang Aier spoke about Prime Minister Vishwakarma program for assistance to artisans and craftspeople and its registration drive for the Tening area.
During the technical session and group discussion, scientist, NBPGR-Delhi, Dr Soyim Chiten spoke about plant biodiversity conservation in the context of Nagaland, while scientist PBG, ICAR Nagaland centre, Dr Harendra Verma spoke on PPVFRA, its objective and benefits for farmers.


A session was also carried out by Dr. Patu K Zeliang and Z James Kikon on the importance of KVK Centre and its different projects for the farmers’ community.


The programme was attended by officials from agri and allied departments, village council chiefs and farmer representatives from 20 villages under Tening subdivision, Goanburas, Dobashis, youth organisation and women’s welfare organisations from Tening Town and village.
