NJA holds 20th general conference

The 20th general conference of the Nagaland Judges’ Association (NJA) was held at De Oriental Grand, Kohima on February 24.
A DIPR report informed that justice Devashis Baruah, judge, Gauhati High Court graced the conference as special guest and advisor of Law & justice & Land Revenue, T. N. Mannen as guest of honour.


Justice Devashi in his address recalled his legal journey and how one should be discipline as a judge. He also emphasised on civil laws in Assam and briefly mention about his stay in Kohima and how he handled many criminal laws.
He further enlightened the judges about the Constitution of India and how any action on the part of state should least effect on the people.
T. N Mannen in his short speech emphasis on how delivery of justice should be ensured in a proper way and how interpretation of customary law and usages need to be articulated in a proper manner by the Nagas.


He also spoke on how customary law was a subject to changes and was not static but rather was dynamic in nature.
Y. Longkumer shared about how power comes with responsibility and enlightened the judges to be honest and work with integrity to win the trust of the people.


The programme was chaired by Victo Sema, NJS, member secretary, NSLSA, president Nagaland Judges’ Association and vote of thanks by Kumdilong Kessen, NJS, Chief Judicial Magistrate cum Civil Judge (Sr.) Division, Longleng, Asst. General Secretary, Nagaland Judges’ Association.
