DIMAPUR: Chümoukedima Village Youth Society (CVYS) in reiteration to its resolution on the ban on hunting, fishing, and foraging under its jurisdiction, cautioned against loitering in its area after 8 p.m. without “genuine reason”.
In a press release, CVYS president, Sedevikho Tsükrü and general secretary, Phrochüzolie Visezo, said the ban has been imposed on hunting, fishing, foraging of vegetables, fodder/wood/ collection and any other activities that deplete the flora and fauna under Chümoukedima village jurisdiction.
CVYS cautioned that defaulters/hunters if caught violating the resolution a penalty of not less than Rs. one lakh would be levied depending on the severity of the act.
The society also prohibited the carrying of firearms inside the village jurisdiction and informed that all types of firearms intended to be used for hunting in the village jurisdiction would be confiscated and processed for license cancelation. CVYS said unlicensed firearms/ air rifles or any other hunting tools would be confiscated and destroyed on the spot.
Cautioning about starting a wildfire, the CVYS said the severest action and a punitive fine of Rs. five lakh or more would be imposed depending on the severity of destruction, including legal action.
Pointing out old Chümoukedima Heritage Village becoming a favoured site for trekkers, picnic parties and visitors, CVYS appealed to the visitors to maintain and care for the heritage site and public amenities.
CVYS said it was weary of the alarming trend of vandalizing/ defacing monuments and public rest houses by miscreants and cautioned that such impetuous acts would not be tolerated and any person caught will be dealt sternly. Visitors have been directed to dispose of their waste/trash responsibly in pits/waste bins, especially plastic waste.
Further, CVYS has appealed to denizens to adhere to cautionary signboards put up within its jurisdiction.
On the rising criminal activities of robbery, drug peddlers and public nuisance, CVYS said loitering inside the village jurisdiction without genuine reason after 8 p.m. has been restricted. CVYS said youth volunteers on duty have been instructed to halt and inquire, and advised commuters/visitors to cooperate with the youth volunteers.
