Police officers trained on new criminal laws

DIMAPUR:

A five-day “Training of Trainers (ToT) course on three new criminal laws” organised by Nagaland Police under the aegis of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD), Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) got underway Friday at Rhododendron Hall, Police Complex, Chümoukedima.


A press release by Superintendent of Police (SCRB) and PRO, PHQ Nagaland informed that the ToT was organised to sensitise the officers from the rank of ASI to Additional SP and equip them with a comprehensive understanding of the three new laws namely the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BSN), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyan (BSA).


PRO said the new criminal laws shall replace the old laws i.e. Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860 Code of Criminal Procedure (Cr.PC), 1973 and The Indian Evidence Act, 1872. During the inaugural program, additional DGP (Admin), Renchamo P. Kikon gave an overview on the new provisions of the three criminal laws noting that the Indian Criminal Justice System was now poised to be citizen and victim centric while at the same time empowering the police. Kikon deliberated on various path breaking facets and provisions in the new criminal laws. Earlier, the welcome note was delivered by principal, Nagaland Police Training School, Chümoukedima, Aboli Metha, and a brief introduction of the course was delivered by deputy director BPRD, Rajashekara N, who is also the main resource person for the training programme. The programme was attended by IGP (CID), Khalate Vikram, Joint director FSL, Vilhousie Peseyie, and 81 officers from all the district police of the state.
