‘Polio Day’ to be observed on Mar 3

As a part of the National Immunization Day, Nagaland would conduct Polio Day on March 3, 2024 in all the districts. All children below 5 years of age, irrespective of previous immunization status, would be administered two drops of the oral polio vaccine to protect against polio.

In a press release, state immunization officer Dr. Imkongtemsu Longchar stated that though India was polio-free, there still exists polio in few countries and could return.
Therefore, to ensure the child’s complete protection, Dr. Longchar said polio vaccine is given every time so that India maintains its victory over polio.

During Booth Day on March 3, 2024 from 8am to 3pm, parents and caregivers could take their children to receive the two drops of polio vaccine. Post the administration of the oral polio vaccine, the child’s finger would be marked with ink for the health workers to understand the coverage.

Parents and caregivers have been reminded that the ink used for the finger marking in the child is safe from any toxicity.
All the parents and caregivers have been requested to avail the service and visit the polio booth for the uptake of services. Parents could also contact the health workers, ASHA and AWWs in their respective areas for further information.a
