DIMAPUR: Nagaland Village Guards (NVGs) celebrated its 67th Raising Day under the theme, “The guardian of the frontier villages” on March 1 at the Village Guard cum Memorial Hall, Pangsha, Noklak.
According to a DIPR report, speaking at the occasion as guest of honour, Deputy Commissioner (DC) and ex-officio commandant, NVG, Noklak, Arikumba said NVGs play a vital role in the region in maintaining law and order in the villages with the collaboration of district administration.
He said Village Guards (VCs) were working tirelessly in controlling the anti-social elements in the villages, thus working for the betterment of the villages.
Reminding the VCs that their primary purpose was to protect the lives and properties of the villagers, Arikumba asked them to maintain peace and tranquility for the progress of the villages.
In a short speech, NVG Tuensang commandant, Mongkoyanchu, briefed the gathering on the establishment of VGs at Pangsha in the year 1957. He encouraged the VGs to perform their duties faithfully.
NVG Kiphire deputy commandant, Wanmei Konyak, also highlighted the services rendered by VGs in maintaining peace and security in the region along with district administration.
During the event, Yanthong, a VG pioneer, was felicitated. The programme was chaired by NVG Tobu assistant commandant, while a vote of thanks was delivered by NVG Noklak assistant commandant, Nokchem L.
