A cadre of the Ang Mai-led NSCN (K) was killed in a gunfight with Assam Rifles in Sangsa village area, in Mon district on Monday morning. In a statement, PRO & Spokesperson (Defence), said that the Assam Rifles personnel, acting on a tip-off about the movement of insurgents for carrying out abduction and extortion in Sangsa village area, launched an operation on the intervening night of March 3 and 4.
Soon after intercepting the cadres, PRO said that the AR troops were fired upon by the cadres and a gunfight broke out during which one insurgent was killed while another was apprehended. PRO said that one automatic rifle, automatic pistol, grenades, ammunition and other war-like stores were recovered. As per intelligence inputs, PRO said that the insurgent cadres reportedly belonged to the “NSCN (K-Rebel)” faction.
