NCD reaffirms ‘one govt., one tax’ public resolution

The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has once again reaffirmed to stand by the October 31, 2013 public resolution for “one government, one tax” and appealed to the various Naga national political groups/organizations/individuals to respect and honor the public resolution.
“Respecting the said resolution is respecting the sentiment of the citizens that creates a sense of relief in the hearts of the people,” NCD president Etsungmomo Kikon and general secretary LK. Peter Anal said in a press note.

“Time and again, all the concerned are reminded of Dimapur public resolution, “one government, one tax” adopted on 31st October 2013, under the aegis of Naga Council Dimapur in unanimity of all sections of people in Dimapur,” NCD said and pointed out that the term literally implied that “there should be only one Naga national political government which levies and collects a single tax public or business communities, and not by multiple Naga national political governments as of now.”

The council said that under the aegis of NCD, all CSOs and business communities including non-tribal organizations based in Dimapur held several rounds of consultative meetings in regard to the prevailing unabated multiple taxations/collection and reaffirmed the October 31 resolution.

However, NCD said that various Naga national political groups/individuals have turned deaf to repeated fervent appeals by NCD and various organizations against the evil menace of multiple taxations/collections particularly in and around Dimapur and neighboring districts.
“It has become absolutely impossible for the business or public to pay a multiple tax to countless Naga political groups/organizations/individuals,” NCD said.

In this regard, NCD asked all business communities/public that if any organizations/individuals are found indulging/involved in multiple tax collections or in association with any groups/organizations to immediately report to the appropriate authorities for stringent action as per law of the land.

With regard to the Dimapur Chambers of Commerce & Industries’ (DCCI) decision to impose indefinite shutter-down in protest against unabated multiple taxation, intimidations etc., NCD was of the opinion that confronting each other on any issue in terms of organizing bandhs/rallies should be avoided.

NCD said it never encouraged any associations/organizations for indefinite bandh or closure of all establishment/institutions in Dimapur city unless the issue/situation becomes extremely necessary. However, NCD said that the issue of late has become practically impossible for the survival of common people including business establishments.

In this regard, NCD warned that the council along with all the CSOs would be compelled to initiate appropriate step to safeguard the welfare of the citizens, unless necessary steps are taken by various NNPG/organizations and the state government.

Further, NCD appealed to the government of India and the negotiating groups to resolve Naga political imbroglio at the earliest, adding that: “It is the very root cause of multiple taxations, and of all the areas in Nagaland, Dimapur receives the brunt of it where businessmen are the most vulnerable.”
