Govt committed to complete Foothill Road: Azo

Staff Reporter

NPF legislature party leader Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu has reiterated that the opposition-less state government was committed to completing the Foothill Road project, for which Rs 145 crore had been sanctioned after ten years.
He said this while speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the silver jubilee programme of the Western Phekmi Welfare Union (WPWU) at Bade village on Tuesday.

Azo acknowledged that as the amount was insufficient the state government was trying to get funds from the North East Council (NEC).
Asked why the state government always cited lack of funds for the project then suddenly announced Rs 145 crore, Azo said “I have not been in the government for the past seven years, so I have no idea and can offer no comment.”

The Foot Hill Road project was initiated in 2013 when Nienu was Roads and Bridges minister. On the NPF’s announcement to support Dr Chumben Murry, PDA consensus candidate for the Lok Sabha election, Azo said this was in line with NPF being part of the opposition-less government. On the Frontier Naga Territory (FNT) issue, Nienu refused to comment since the issue was “very sensitive.” He hoped that ENPO would sort out the matter with the Ministry of Home Affairs.
