Clover Dental Clinic, Kohima, led by Dr Nikenlemla Imchen and team, conducted a dental health awareness program at Koinonia Baptist School, Kohima, on Tuesday in commemoration of the clinic’s 4th anniversary.
At the awareness program, the students were taught on the importance of oral healthcare and different ways to prevent dental caries, like maintaining good oral hygiene, topical fluoride application, pit and fissure sealants, reduced consumption of sugary foods and beverages, and regular dental check-up.
Dr Nikenlemla also stressed on the crucial role of the teachers in building a positive attitude in the child toward dentists and dental care. She mentioned that more than 50% of children under the age of eight years were affected by dental caries and a substantial number of school hours were lost citing toothache due to tooth decay.
She therefore said that promoting oral health awareness among children and parents through the implementation of oral health education in the classrooms can prevent most of the dental problems. Proper hands-on tooth brushing technique was also taught to the students by Dr. Khriebeituonuo Usuo and each child was given an oral hygiene kit.
Topical fluoride application was carried on the children for caries prevention. A training manual on oral health promotion was also distributed to all the teachers and Clover Dental can be reached at www.cloverdentalclinic.co.
