W. Nginyeih Konyak, chairperson of Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) on Saturday said promotion of mental health among women should be taken on priority by adopting policies and law that protect mental health.
She was speaking at the workshop on “Women’s Mental Health” organised by Lapyie Centre for Mental Well-Being in collaboration with Gracious Life Foundation and Prodigals Home held at Tourist Lodge, here on Saturday.
Nginyeih described mental health as serious issue and one of the most common illness in the society.
In the context of Nagaland, she said Naga women were more resilient in terms of mental pressure as compared to men.
According to Nginyeih, the most common mental health disorders among women were depression, trauma, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder PTSD.
She informed that World Health Organization was committed to implement the “comprehensive mental health action plan 2013-2030” with an aim to improve mental health. She therefore urged all the concern stake holders and department, and the government to ensure that women mental health be valued, promoted and protected.
Also speaking at the programme, Clinical Psychologist Christian Institute of Health Science & Research (CIHSR), Imlibenla Mongro emphasized on emotion and self-care.
Sharing her experience, Founder and Director, Gracious Life Foundation, Lisali M Humtsoe, explained how people find it difficult to except the ground reality in terms of mental health and faced a lot of challenges and gaps.
She said that the Foundation provide rehabilitation home for mental illness and treatment to discover the skills and interest and focusing on providing skill training.
Meanwhile, Consultant, Dermatologist, Eden Medical Centre, DR. Atoka Sumi, spoke on healthy skin and healthy life.
Pastoral counselor and teacher Khevili K Jakhalu spoke on the topic “The Theos and the psychology of women.”
During the discussion hour, Clinical Psychiologist, Imlibenla Mongro emphasized on emotional intelligence of a man and a woman. She also discuss on post menopause and how every woman should be as aware and be mentally prepared, to understand the symptoms, and take care of themselves. Earlier, the programme chaired by Moamenla Yaden began with an invocation by women pastor Sumi Baptist Church, Kheton Shikhu and benediction by Khevili K Jakhalu.
