DGP Nagaland, Rupin Sharma on Saturday unveiled the Police Memorial at the NAP Training Centre Complex in Chümoukedima and paid homage to the Nagaland police personnel who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

Addressing the event, DGP emphasized the importance of honoring the courageous men and women who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. He expressed his vision for a more permanent and distinguished structure to commemorate the fallen heroes. DGP advocated for the establishment of a centralized police memorial for the state and sought suggestions from Dimapur-based units to identify suitable sites.

Sharma also called for centralized funding and management to make the memorial a grand affair, possibly involving generous donations. It was suggested that the memorial should not just be a physical structure but also include elements like inscriptions and booklets to immortalize the stories of the fallen officers.

He proposed inscribing the names of the martyrs and documenting their heroic acts, suggesting the creation of books or pamphlets detailing the incidents leading to their ultimate sacrifice. He emphasized the significance of utilizing such accounts as case studies for training purposes.

Lauding the dedication and service of the Nagaland Police, DGP called for a reorientation within the force, particularly in light of recent legislative changes. He urged all personnel to approach their training with utmost seriousness.
During the ceremony, DGP Sharma laid a wreath at the newly unveiled memorial. A ‘Shok Shastra Shraddhanjali Drill’ was performed as a mark of respect and tribute to the martyrs.

In his brief address, NAPTC commandant Ben Longkumer emphasized that the memorial serves as a reminder of their dedication to duty and public service. He acknowledged the construction team and stressed the importance of ensuring that the memorial reflects the true honor of their sacrifices. Overall, he called for unity and commitment from all personnel to ensure the well-being and effectiveness of the police force. Host of senior police officers also attended the programme.
