Skills training imparted to youths

A one day skills training to promote self -employment amongst the youths was conducted on March 30 at Merama Khel, Phesama village. According to DIPR, the program was organised by Kevi, Village Level Organisation (VLO) Phesama Village under RD Block Jakhama, promoted by Day-&1 NSRLM as part of the Social Developmental initiative towards addressing the issues of School drop-out among the youths.


Speaking at the training, Area Coordinator Sokhrienuo Rüpre-o said that the number of school drop-out and unemployed youth has been increasing each year as they were not given proper guidance. She encouraged the younger generation particularly the unemployed youths earn an honest and self-sustained livelihood without depending on others.


During the training, different skills trainings ranging from traditional weaving, tailoring, basket making, pickle and biscuits making, hair cutting, sketching were taught to the participants.


Resource persons of the training included Self Help Group (SHG) members under VLO and self-employed youths from the village including weaver, artist, barbers, tailor etc. Village Level Organization, Phesama has been conducting skills training for the youths since last two years and plans to continue such training in the coming days. Altogether 20 youths participated in the training.
