Educational institutions and other organisations organised various programmes and activities for students, teaching faculty and non-teaching staff as part of the academic and extracurricular activities.
NEISSR: North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) Chümoukedima organised a comprehensive workshop on “Interview Skills and Resume Writing” Saturday at the NEISSR Hall with Dr. Kekhrietshunuo Kire, a trainer and mentor, as the resource person.
At the workshop, Dr. Kire stressed the pivotal role of active listening in professional environments, urging trainees to cultivate this skill. She emphasised the importance of maintaining a positive attitude and capitalizing on the opportunities provided by the institute.
Transitioning to the SWOT analysis segment, participants engaged in identifying their strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. The interactive session saw trainees sharing their personal experiences and insights, accentuating the positive attributes of the institute.
MCC: Model Christian College (MCC) conducted three workshops for the non-teaching staff, students and faculty, Saturday.
A workshop on “office record management” was conducted for non-teaching staff with accountant, Vemetha Huzhu and system administrator, Er. Neilhite Kapfo, from Kohima Science College Autonomous, Jotsoma, Kohima as resource persons.
A workshop on “Career Choice” was conducted for the students by Mahendra Educational Private Limited, Kohima. The workshop provided the students with valuable insights, strategies, time management and resources to enhance their chance of success in state and civil services.
In the second session, manager, Abijeet Bharadwaj, Kaziranga University, Jorhat, enlightened the students about diverse career pathways, while the Young Indians, in the third session, fostered an entrepreneurial spirit among students through interactions and seasoned entrepreneurs.
A workshop on “Research Methodology” for the faculty was organised by Research Development Cell, in collaboration with Internal Quality Assessment Cell (IQAC), with associate professor, department of education Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Dr. Boyillapalli Venkata Rao, as the resource person. The workshop was divided into two sessions, namely research methodology and insight on citations.
SCC: A community extension service was jointly organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Students Union of Sao Chang College at District Hospital Tuensang, Saturday.
During the day, a cleanliness drive was organised in the district hospital campus with the student volunteers rendering their service in cleaning the hospital campus for the welfare of the hospital users. As part of its extension service to the community, the IQAC also donated a moveable plastic commode to the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre, Tuensang.
IC: Commemorating “World Health Day”, students from the NSS and Yuva Tourism Club of Immanuel College, Dimapur conducted a cleanliness drive, Saturday.
To spread the message, students displayed a banner themed, “My Health, My Right”, which aimed to emphasize the importance of a clean environment for a healthy life.
NEA & NU: One-day lecture series on “State Budget 2024-2025: A Comprehensive Perspective” was organised by the Nagaland Economic Association (NEA), in collaboration with the department of economics, Nagaland University (NU) on April 5.
The event aimed to delve into the intricacies of the Nagaland State Budget for the fiscal year 2024-2025, providing valuable insights and perspectives for stakeholders and the public.
Speaker for the session, officer in the Indian Economic Service (IES), joint director, department of economic affairs, and officer on special duty department of planning and transformation, government of Nagaland, Nayantara Sasikumar, delivered a detailed overview of the State Budget 2024-2025, highlighting key aspects such as total expenditure, total receipts, fiscal deficit, and policy directions.
Sasikumar addressed various issues concerning the budget, including the limited reliance on the state’s own tax revenue, dependency on central grants and tax shares, and sectoral allocation disparities.
She proposed measures such as enhancing the state’s tax revenue, boosting non-tax revenues, curtailing revenue expenditure, and advocating for projections and fiscal sustainability studies.
Earlier, in an opening remark, professor B. Kilangla Jamir emphasised the critical role of the state budget in fostering responsible financial management, efficient governance, and overall development.
The session concluded with an interactive session where participants engaged in constructive discussions.
BCK: Baptist College Kohima (BCK) held its “Literary Day 2024” under the theme, “Educate, Articulate, Liberate” on April 5 at Ura Academy, Kohima.
The guest speaker of the event, head of history department and convenor of the intercollegiate debate competition, Sazolie College, Robinson Temsu Jamir, emphasised how people are living in a distressing and yet interesting time.
He said it was distressing because of the local and global conflicts yet interesting because of the human capacity to bring about change in the midst of all that.
Jamir also emphasised the idea of education as the cornerstone of every academic journey, adding that it was only through the right education that people could equip themselves with the skills and information to navigate the complex world.
The debate on the topic “Social Media has blurred the Practical reality of Today’s Youth”, a prepared speech competition on the topic, “Right comes with Responsibilities”, and a short film making competition on the theme, “Go Green express” were also held and winners felicitated.
