9th NAP Bn. (IR), the “Daring Ninth” as it is popularly called today honoured its jawans who lost their lives fighting naxals in Chattisgarh by way of dispensing ex-gratia and insurance money to the next of kin of each of slain personnel.
Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland, J Changkija during a formal programme at 12 NAP Bn. (IR), Chumukedima police headquarters handed over an ex gratia of rupees three lakh each to ten family members of slain personnel and an additional rupees ten lakh insurance money to four families. The ex-gratia money comes from Chattisgarh government as announced by it earlier.
Besides today’s dispensation the families will receive an additional rupees two lakh from the state government which is under process, the DGP said.
Acknowledging the sacrifices made by those slain Naga jawans, Changkija said that the slain personnel had shown an exemplary patriotism by performing their duties with utmost dedication which would always be remembered.
Interestingly, the Chattisgarh government which earlier announced an ex-gratia of rupees five lakh each to all the slain Naga jawans — which nine slain soldiers had earlier received, was reduced to rupees three lakh owing to “constraints”.
