Under the aegis of Nagaland Council for Child Welfare, the National Painting Competition for school students was held Saturday at the Red Cross conference hall. The competition was sponsored by the Indian Council for Child Welfare.
Altogether 84 students from 16 different schools in Kohima participated in the competition. Categorized into three different groups under different topics, the winner for the Blue group were Kekhrielhoulie Sekhose from G. Rio School as first, Imnasenla Imchen from Fernwood School as second and Kelhosenuo from North Field as third. In the Green Group, Emtili Aier from North Field bagged the first prize, Neirükrünuo from North Field, second and Diawa Imchen from R.Gio School, third. In the White Group, Temshir from Chandmari Higher Secondary School bagged the first prize, while Limatoshi I. Longkumer from North Field and Sinselo Kent from Grace School bagged the second and third prize respectively. The judges were Yanger, art expert, Directorate of Art and Culture; Thechano Kithan, artist and poet; and Temjen Aier, artist and sculptor.
Parliamentary Secretary, Social Welfare and Women Development, Chotisuh Sazo graced the closing ceremony of the competition as the chief guest. Urging the students to keep up their spirit and strive for excellence, Sazo said that the students had potentiality to excel in the national level. He asserted that they should explore their talents and compete with the rest of the world. He stated that budding artists should be encouraged to expand their talents in commercial level and further assured of the government’s support to promote them to professional rank.
The chief guest lauded the NCCW for initiating programme for talented children and other weaker sections of the society. Lamenting that 30% of government registered NGOs do not work according to their objectives, Sazo urged the NCCW to show good examples and take the lead. He further encouraged the NCCW to create more opportunities to uplift the children of the society.
Highlights of the function included welcome address and introduction by Taliba, general secretary , NCCW; song by the students of Chandmari Higher Secondary School; vote of thanks by T. Merang Aier, executive committee member and joint director Social Welfare. The programme was chaired by Akhala L. Aier, president, NCCW.
