Dimapur: RPF seized contraband worth `53 lakhs from Jan to Apr

Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Dimapur Railway Station has seized illegal contrabands worth approximately Rs. 53 lakhs from January to April 2024. RPF Assistant Security Commissioner Vimal Chandra Das provided this information during a press meet held at the RPF commissioner’s office on Saturday.

Das said a substantial quantity of suspected brown sugar and ganja, valued at approximately Rs. 51.05 lakhs, was seized and handed over to GRPS/Dimapur. Additionally, illegal foreign goods, estimated at around Rs. 199,800, were seized, leading to the arrest of two individuals. During the same period, the RPF rescued 20 minors who were reportedly being taken to another state. They were later handed over to Childline Dimapur for care and support, he added. Furthermore, one woman was rescued and provided refuge at the “Sakhi Shelter Home” in Dimapur.

In a separate incident, sedative drugs were seized, and one criminal was apprehended for attempting to drug a passenger to steal personal belongings. Das also highlighted the enforcement of the Railway Act, with 176 cases reported resulting in the arrest of 182 individuals.
Responding to queries on the use of religious institutions in smuggling illegal products, Das issued a stern warning against such exploitation and assured the public of rigorous operations to curb such offenses. He appealed for public cooperation and reaffirmed the RPF’s commitment to close coordination with local law enforcement agencies.

Addressing prevalent crimes, Das mentioned the common occurrence of snatching personal belongings on running trains and pledged swift action against offenders within the railway perimeter, with assistance available through the helpline number ‘139’.
For passengers in need of assistance, Das encouraged them to reach out to RPF or GRPF offices stationed within the railway premises. Additionally, the newly deputed ASC discussed the forthcoming RPF recruitment, highlighting a vacant post of 4026. He emphasized the benefits available to job seekers, particularly those from Nagaland.
