Exasperated with the inconvenience caused by the deteriorating road condition and the inaction of the concerned authorities, members of the Local Taxi Association of Kiphire District took matters into their own hands to repair the Kiphire Main Town road, Saturday.
The members collected funds from among themselves and manually laid soil/stones on the pothole-ridden road which remained neglected for years.
The vice president of the association said the members initiated to repair the road as the concerned department failed to maintain the road.
United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) executive chairman, Aketo Sangtam, also lamented that the concerned department has not been maintaining the National Highway which passes through the main town.
Sangtam said the potholes riddled road filled with water during monsoons causes huge problem for the commuters and citizens, posing challenges for motorists and pedestrians alike. Appealing the concerned department to immediately repair the road, he said Kiphire district administration should take up the matter with the department and ensure that the road was repaired and maintained.
