ZLSU appeals exemption of teachers from poll duty

Zeliang Students’ Union Nagaland (ZLSU) has appealed to the deputy commissioner and district election officer, Peren to exempt teachers from being assigned election duty for the upcoming municipal and town council election.

In an appeal, ZLSU president Kingsalt Hegwang and general secretary Sanlak Namdau expressed concern that the career of students and the normal functioning of the school, if teachers are once again deputed/assigned as polling officials, would be hampered.

It also pointed out that during the recently held Lok Shaba elections, government schools were disrupted and were forced to remain closed due to the deputation of teachers for election duty. ZLSU said that since there were around 80 departments in the State, the government could choose/assign officials from these departments other than education department.
