Educational institutions, others organise programmes for students & faculties

As part of academic and extracurricular activities, various programmes and activities were organised by educational institutions and other organisations for the student community and faculties.


CKHSS: The Class 5 students of Christ King Higher Secondary School (CKHSS) Kohima on June 1 embarked on an educational study tour to the Mini Zoo Kohima. Accompanied by their science teachers, the visit aimed to provide the students with hands-on experience of understanding the characteristics and habitats of various animals, complementing their classroom learning.

The total number of students who participated in the study tour was 94 with four teachers. CKHSS said the initiative was part of the school’s ongoing efforts to enhance practical knowledge and experiential learning among students.


FTS: Faith Theological Seminary (FTS) held its 16th convocation ceremony on June 1, wherein 27 graduates received certificates from the principal, Rev. Dr. Viesielie Angami.Delivering the valedictory message, Dr. Angami exhorted the graduates on servanthood ministry, emphasizing leading through relationships rather than coercion, and meeting the needs of others. He elaborated on support rather than control, guide rather than drive; lead with love rather than domination. During the ceremony, students were also awarded with awards in different disciplines. The programme culminated with a commissioning prayer led by the principal, the faculty, and the board members.

NU: A ten-day Research Methodology Course (RMC) in social sciences sponsored by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and organised by the department of sociology, Nagaland University (NU) culminated on May 31 with a valedictory programme at the Conference Hall, department of sociology, NU, Lumami Campus. Speaking as the guest of honour, NU dean of sciences, Professor M.S. Rawat, called all the participants to enhance their research skills for a successful career. Deliberating on the reflection of the course, course co-director, Dr. Dipika Paul, informed that the organisers received an overwhelming number of applicants from across the country. During the course, resource persons hailing from various premier institutions delivered lectures. The programme concluded with closing remarks by course director, Professor Athungo Ovung.


PGC: A two-day 2nd Cycle of National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation for Phek Government College (PGC, Phek was held on May 30-31.The college was assessed by three NAAC peer team members consisting of a chairperson NAAC peer team (pro-vice chancellor, principal, Arts, Science and Commerce College, Chikhaldara, Maharashtra), Dr. Rajesh Jaipurkar; member coordinator NAAC peer team (director Centre for Promotion of Ecological Adventure Health and Cultural Tourism, Central University Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala), Dr. Sandeep Kulshreshtha; and member of the NAAC peer team (principal, Seven Huts Higher Secondary School, Shillong, Meghalaya), Dr. K. Dhirendro Ramsiej.During their two-day visit, the team’s itinerary included interaction with different departments of the college, associations like parent-teacher, alumni, administration, non-teaching staff, student council executives and faculty members, and interaction with conveners of various committees and cells; on-site verification of facilities; attended cultural programme; compilation and writing of the report and an exit meeting with the institution’s stakeholders. During the two-day assessment, officials from the higher education department, additional director of higher education, Dr. K. Nishena Nyekha and nodal officer for quality assurance, Atula Aier, were also present for interactions.The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Phek, John Tsulise Sangtam, along with 38th Assam Rifles, Col. Prasant Singh Chundawa also visited the institution and interacted with the NAAC peer team members.


SSC: A one-day webinar on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) was organised by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in collaboration with the department of English, Sao Chang College, Tuensang, on May 30. Resource person, former principal, D.A.V. (P. G) College, Pehowa (Kurukshtra), Haryana, Dr. Kamdev Jha, elucidated on how the IKS comprises Jnan, Vignan, and Jeevan Darshan, which have evolved out of experience, observation, experimentation, and rigorous analysis. He said emphasising and reviving IKS in academia and higher education could instil a sense of cultural identity and self-respect among students and scholars. Dr, Jha said IKS would help reconnect with India’s historical roots and ancient scientific developments, fostering a deeper appreciation for indigenous knowledge and its contribution to global thought. Highlighting the relevance of IKS, Dr. Jha reminded that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recognizes the rich heritage of ancient and eternal Indian knowledge and thought, which would be a guiding principle in disseminating the rich legacy of timeless Indian knowledge and philosophy. Altogether, 55 participants participated in the webinar.

IC: A three-day special camp under the motto, “Not Me but You”, was conducted by the National Service Scheme (NSS) Immanuel College (IC) culminated on May 31. During the first two days, the students prepared quote-filled signboards as a way of demonstrating their commitment to the “dignity of labour” on the college campus. On the third day, the prepared boards were erected in the vicinity of the college and also at Aoyimsem, the adopted village.


The college stated that the camp aimed to encourage the students to understand the importance of teamwork, thereby promoting selfless commitment towards community development.


SXHSS: St. Xavier Higher Secondary School (SXHSS) Jalukie celebrated its annual freshers’ day on June 1 under the theme, “Welcome to New Beginning” at St. Xavier Parish Hall, Jalukie. Delivering the keynote address, SXHSS principal, Rev. Fr. George Antony, exhorted the freshers to seize any available opportunity that comes on their way and do their best in life. He reiterated that the vision of St. Xavier’s was to accommodate every colourful culture, tradition, religion and ethnicity from various walks of life characterised by “unity in diversity”. During the programme, Mr. and Miss SXHSS Jalukie Fresher were also declared.
