Elpis Home, coined from Greek word which mean ‘Home of Hope’ is governed by 10 members including 16 working staff to take care of the Centre. The Centre which is situated opposite Assisi school, near Naga Cemetery was sponsored by WSBAK under the project for Community Care Centre for people living with HIV & AIDS. The Home was formally inaugurated by Imtisungit Jamir, MLA, Dimapur -II A/C, on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamir said Churches should also be involved in providing humanitarian services along with NGO’s in fighting the dreaded diseases. He also reminded instead of giving sermons and teaching the word of God in the Churches on Sunday, Church should go and visit those suffering and stigmatized by the society.
Jamir also donated a sum of Rs.1.lakh towards the welfare of the centre.
Earlier, the dedication prayer was offered by Rev.S.Vitoshe Swu, executive Secretary (WSBAK), Khekiho Katy, project Co-ordinator of Elpis Home, read out the aims and objective as well as the activities of the Centre, Dr. Temsu I/C ICTC District Hospital gave a brief note on HIV scenario in Dimapur District. Rev. Helkath Kappo, Director Mission & Evangelism, WSBAK gave the vote of thanks and Rev. Ikuto Jimo, youth Secretary pronounced the benediction.
