Excise department seized 13,293 bottles of Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL), 759 gram of heroin, 2,100 Spasmo Proxyvon capsules and 14,124 litre of country liquor from across the state from January 1 to June 20 this year under Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 and the Drugs & Cosmetics Act, 1940.
Informing this in a press release, commissioner excise and director of prohibition H Atokhe Aye said that altogether 776 persons were also arrested during this period and 775 cases registered, while the estimated value of the seizures has been pegged at Rs 1,08,51,180. The department has cautioned the general public to refrain from indulging in activities involving such illegal contraband items as it would invite punitive measures under the law.
Further, the department said that it had intensified surveillance at various sensitive places and interstate check-gates for effectively preventing the inflow of liquor and other illicit items to ensure smooth and successful conduct of the urban local body elections.
