MOKOKCHUNG: New office building of the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) was inaugurated on August 7 by S. Pangnyu Phom, parliamentary secretary RD & REPA. Delivering the inaugural address, the parliamentary secretary said Mokokchung has one of the oldest DRDAs in Nagaland and hoped the people of Mokokchung take pride in it. The Parliamentary Secretary when on to add that the main purpose of having DRDA was to empower and strengthen Village Development Board (VDB). He further said people should be able to look upon DRDA as a platform to review the development problems and various programs of the village.
The Parliamentary Secretary also said that DRDA has the privilege as well as the position to develop a community and added “position gives authority and authority gives power but only good behavior begets respect. Any position of power, unless built on justice cannot endure and earn the respect of the people.” He called upon all the officials who are given responsibility to be sincere and efficient as poor villagers count on them.
The Parliamentary Secretary also shared his thoughts on good governance, and said the prime objective of good governance was to value human dignity and to bring progress and prosperity to its people. He further added that good governance in any public institution is about creating an ethical framework ensureing that the purpose of the institution is carried out effectively. He said good governance can only be achieved when one considers public office as public trust, bestowed for the benefit of the state and not for individual or any party. He called upon the officers to be very conscious of the position and capacity in the department and to remember that good governance is about equal sharing of blessings and opportunities.
Earlier in the program Er. Saku, Parliamentary Secretary Works & Housing and Sericulture, Mestubo Director, RD also gave short speeches. The program was attended by a large number of VDB Secretaries, Village Council Chairman and host of government officials.
