Rio inaugurates Shoppers Stop’s first store in Dimapur

Shoppers Stop, the first store in Nagaland, was inaugurated by chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, at the Khermahal Police Point, here on Saturday. In his inaugural address, Rio expressed delight at inaugurating the store at the state’s lone commercial city. He congratulated the people of Nagaland and Dimapur for attracting the confidence of Shoppers Stop that led to the opening of the store.


Rio also highlighted the significance of having a leading and trusted retail brand like Shoppers Stop in the state, emphasizing the unique experience of physically shopping as opposed to online purchasing. He said that the new store would offer convenience to customers, reducing the need to travel outside the state for shopping. According to Rio, opening of such store in the state was a sign of progress and development in the state.


On the economic benefits, Rio asserted that though Nagaland was not a revenue generating state, it could generate a total of around Rs. 100 crores annually. He however pointed that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) has transformed the revenue scenario for Nagaland, revealing that the state’s total GST return for the fiscal year 2023-2024 was Rs.1,064 crores, collected from 10,850 registered GST entities.


He expressed hope that the new store would further boost GST earnings and encourage other brands to establish their presence in the state. Also delivering a short message, Customer Care Associate, Managing Director, and CEO, Shoppers Stop Limited, Kavindra Mishra, said that North East was an important market and expressed his excitement to open the first store in Dimapur.
