After the results of the recent election to the ULBs for Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) were declared on June 29, efforts are on to constitute the civic body with newly elected members taking charge.
After the recent elections, ruling NDPP won 13 seats and got the support of two independents who reportedly joined the NDPP, adding the tally to 15. The BJP on the other hand won six seats. The ruling NDPP will formally stake claim to form the new DMC body.
It was learnt that the NDPP will be electing the next chairperson and deputy chairperson of the DMC.
The DMC elections on June 26 were held in 21 Wards after one BJP and another NDPP were elected unopposed.
The formation of various municipal and town councils in Nagaland will take place after a gap of 20 years when elections could not be held owing to issues that arose over 33% women reservation.
Out of nine women candidates, eight won under the women quota while one was elected under the general quota.
