Along with the rest of the country, National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme (NVBDCP), observed anti-malaria month under the theme “Accelerating Fight Against Malaria for a more Equitable World” in Dimapur and Kohima. From June 1 to 30.
During the month, besides distribution of insecticide treated bednets to the public, several other anti-malaria activities were carried out throughout the district such as awareness on the causes and symptoms, preventive measures to be taken, diagnosis and treatment, use of insecticidal treated bednets, cleanliness drive, and awareness in schools on Anti-Malaria.
Stakeholders such as village authorities, civil societies, faith-based organizations, youths, have been involved in all anti-malaria activities conducted in the district. Besides keeping the surrounding or village clean, the stakeholders were sensitized on the importance of community participation to fight malaria, source reduction which is to reduce mosquito breeding grounds in their respective localities to eliminate and prevent the spread of malaria and other vector borne diseases.
Meanwhile, District Vector Borne Diseases Control Team reminded the public to protect themselves from vector borne diseases during this monsoon period by ensuring there was no stagnant water that acts as a breeding ground for mosquitoes by keeping their surroundings clean, use insecticide treated mosquito nets at night and mosquito repellants.
District Vector Borne Diseases Control Team Dimapur also carried out anti-malaria activities led by District Vector Borne Officer Dr. A. Kavito Zhimomi, District Vector Borne Diseases Consultant Peter Sangtam, Malaria Inspectors, Malaria Technical Supervisors, Surveillance Inspectors, Surveillance Workers, and ASHAs. Health camp screening for malaria were also conducted in 10 selected villages in the district.
KOHIMA: National Vector Borne Disease control Program (NVBDCP), Kohima observed anti malaria month under the theme ‘Time to deliver zero malaria: Invest, Innovate, Implement’ at Jakhama, chiephobozou , Tseminyu, Sechu and Chunlika block.
A press release by DVBO Dr. Kevilhoulie Meyase informed that various activities were conducted at seven villages under seven blocks from Kohima district and similar nature of activities to be held at few more villages under Kohima district. Malaria Technical supervisors/ surveillance worker and ASHAS from various block conducted the activities along with District Consultant, Assistant Malaria officer, Malaria inspectors and vector Borne officer.
Apart from free malaria test undertaken, public were also made aware of waste management, prevention of water stagnation, where no malaria cases were detected during the screening test of malaria.
