‘Stop diarrhoea campaign’ launched across Nagaland

A two-month long, “Stop Diarrhoea Campaign” an initiative that focuses on enhancing the Prevent, Protect, and Treat (PPT) strategy to prevent and control deaths due to dehydration from diarrhoea in children under five was launched across the state on July 1.

TUENSANG

TUENSANG: The campaign under the slogan “Stop Diarrhoea Through Hygiene and ORS” was launched by ADC Tuensang, Thungchanbemo Tungoe at District Hospital Conference Hall, Tuensang.
According to DIPR report, Thungchanbemo speaking on the programme urged the health workers especially the ASHA and Anganwadi workers to work with dedication to create awareness campaign on the importance of hand washing and clean drinking water to the children especially in monsoon where different diseases occurred.


He informed that district administration was always ready to assist the health workers anytime if needed and urged the workers to create awareness and distribute ORS and Zinc tablet to every child especially in the rural areas in the district.


Earlier, keynote address was delivered by Dr. Imti Jungshi Aier DPO (RCH/UIP), Tuensang and vote of thanks by Dr. Tochi, Sr. Specialist District Hospital, Tuensang. The programme was chaired by Mongko DPM NHM, Tuensang and was attended by government official, NGOs, doctors and nurses, Anganwadi workers and ASHA workers from Tuensang.

Wokha

WOKHA: District level launching programme on “Stop Diarrhoea Campaign” was held at the conference hall, Chief Medical Office, Wokha. ADC, Wokha K. Furhesie Nyuwi addressing the launching campaign as special guest, appreciated the department by upgrading the two week campaign to two month long campaign involving extensive IEC through different platform and collaborating across multiple sectors, including health, water and sanitation, education and rural development.


He emphasised on the importance of sensitizing health workers along with enhancing capacity building efforts to strengthen diarrhoea management efforts in the district. He further appealed the parents to come forward and avail the service facilities during the two month long campaign.
Dr. Zuben Kikon CMO, Wokha delivered the welcome note while, Dr. Thungchanbeni Patton delivered the key note address.

Noklak

DC Noklak, Arikumba along with other officials and participants.

NOKLAK: Deputy Commissioner, Noklak, Arikumba launched the campaign at DC’s Conference hall, Noklak, which will culminate on August 31. Speaking at the launching programme, Arikumba stated that, “Stop Diarrhoea Campaign” was a holistic campaign and requested all the stakeholders to initiate and participate for the successful conduct of the campaign.


DC also encouraged the gathering and all the stakeholders to spread awareness on the campaign in the district. Chief Medical Officer, Noklak, Dr. Victor NC informed that, during the District Task Force on Stop Diarrhoea Campaign meeting held on June 29, the members discussed to set up dedicated corner which will be stocked with ORS and Zinc tablets to be provided to the patients for free in all health units. Dr. Victor also elaborated on the hygiene and preventive measures for stopping diarrhoea. Earlier, the programme was chaired by DPM Noklak, C. Hosea and vote of thanks by EAC Noklak, Kathyinla.

Mon

MON: District Health Society, Mon, launched the campaign at District Hospital conference hall by EAC, Mon HQ, Nyamok Konyak. A press release by media officer, NHM Mon, informed that special guest Nyamok Konyak, in her speech, related personal story in which a life could have been saved through proper information. Chief Medical Officer, Dr .Imnapokim, welcomed all attendees and delivered quick overview of the campaign’s objectives, as well as brief rundown of the two months activities to be implemented in the district.

A power point lecture on diarrhea and its treatment was delivered by paediatrician, Dr Chimang Paul of DH, Mon, while ASHA of Leangha village, Lihnon, demonstrated on how to make homemade oral rehydration solution, ORS. Block Programme Manager, Mon Block, Pongchai, further outlined the activities to be implemented in all blocks of the district.

After the official launch event, Dr. Wungyong chaired a coordination meeting with District Programme Management Unit and other affiliated departments.He provided detailed explanation of the duties of the line departments, which included district administration, social welfare, education, NSRLM-RD, and PHED. Stop Diarrhea campaign, impending Family Planning campaign, and Anemia Mukt Bharat initiative.

ZUNHEBOTO

ZUNHEBOTO: The launching programme of “Stop diarrhoea campaign”, was held at Conference Hall, District Hospital Zunheboto, with EAC (Sadar) Zunheboto, Mopling Phom, as special guest.


A press release by District Media Officer, Zunheboto, informed that Mopling, in his message informed that the state government has put trust to the public through various initiatives to stop diarrhea and it was the duty of the concerned citizens to extend support and co-operate with medical department to make the campaign a success. He further urged the administration, civil society organization and faith based organization to make use of their platforms to share the importance and educate community in the block and village level. He also appealed to the public to approach health workers, ASHA’s, especially in the rural areas, where services were hard to reach as many cases goes unreported.


DPO (RCH&UIP) Zunheboto, Dr. Heto Swu, delivered welcome and keynote address and also gave an overview of the programme and highlighted on the theme “Stop diarrhea campaign through hygiene and ORS”, which would be carried out across all health units in the district.


Demonstration of homemade ORS was carried out by BAC Sadar, Toli, using standard composition of WHO. ORS and Zinc tablets were later distributed to the participants and the beneficiaries.

Kohima

CMO Kohima, Dr. Leamnyei Konyak and others.

KOHIMA: Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kohima, in collaboration with the District Health Society, NHM launched the campaign in Kohima. In a press release CMO, Kohima, Dr. Leamnyei Konyak informed that the programme was launched by ADC, Kohima, Rhosietho Nguori.


Rhosietho in his speech highlighted the persistently high prevalence of diarrhoea in areas like Dimapur and Kohima, and emphasized the critical need for improved sanitation, focusing on both personal and community hygiene.


Also speaking at the event, DPO (RCH/UIP), Dr. Khrievilhou highlighted that diarrhoea remains prevalent among children under five in India. He mentioned that the ORS & Zinc combination has reduced mortality rates by 50.6%. Stressing the importance of access to ORS & Zinc to prevent and manage diarrhoea, he also discussed the preparation of ORS at home.

LONGLENG

LONGLENG: Deputy Commissioner, Longleng, Dharam Raj launched the campaign organized by District Health Society, Longleng at CMO Conference Hall Longleng. In a press release CMO Office, Media Officer Longleng, Angshom Chemdok, informed that DC Longleng in his speech urged the public to increase awareness and stressed the importance of maintaining proper sanitation and personal hygiene, as well as using safe drinking water to control and prevent other disease.

He emphasized the need for public sensitization and capacity-building efforts, and also underscored the importance of strengthening diarrhea management initiatives within the district. CMO Longleng, Dr. Tiasunep provided a briefing on diarrhea, preventive measures and hygiene and encouraged every one to disseminate awareness about diarrhea, usage of ORS and Zinc tablets to the community. Dr. S Imnameren Phom, DPO RCH/UIP, delivered a presentation on stopping diarrhea through hygiene practices and ORS and said that the campaign aims to attain zero child’s death due to childhood diarrhea.
