National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Government of India, in collaboration with Shishoi Oshim-ETF Cell Wokha, District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Wokha, and the Department of Fisheries and AR, Wokha, organized a comprehensive three -day skill development training program on “Fish Preservation & Value Addition” from July 2-4 at Wokha.
A total 25 young entrepreneurs participated in the training programme. Expert resource persons were from ICAR-RC for NEH Umiam, NFDB-NERC, and officers from Wokha District Fisheries Office shared their knowledge and expertise.
The training emphasized the importance of hygienic handling of fish and covered various preservation methods including icing, freezing, drying, smoking, fermenting, and canning. Additionally, participants also learned to prepare value-added fish products. As part of the program, trainees visited the “Fish Processing Unit” at Sanis for demonstrations and hands-on training in preparing fish products.
