Sumi Hoho and Kohima Sumi Hoho celebrated, Tuluni, the premier festival of the Sumi Naga on July 8. Sumi Hoho celebrated the festival at the residence pf Sumi Hoho president’s residence DC Hill on July 8.
In a press release, Sumi Hoho general secretary, Vihuto Asumi informed that former president Sumi Hoho Dr. H.S. Rotokha highlighted the significance of Tuluni and how it was celebrated.
He emphasized that the festivals main significance lies in safeguarding crops during their growth from natural calamities like adverse weather and pests. Deputy Commissioner Zunheboto, Rahul Bhanudas Mali, in his address, praised the Sumi frontal organizations for their successful completion of three consecutive elections.
He noted that Zunheboto, once known as the land of warriors, has transformed into a district that cherishes peace, due to the proactive efforts of frontal organizations.
President of Sumi Hoho, I Nikheto Jimo, in his welcome address, mentioned that the celebration was made possible through excellent cooperation between Sumi Hoho and Sumi Kukami Hoho.
Kohima Sumi Hoho
Kohima SĂ¼mi Hoho, celebrated Tuluni, the premier festival of Sumi tribe at the office residence of Y Kikheto Sema, New Ministers’ Hill, Kohima on July 8.
According to DIPR report, the primary objective of holding jubilation event was to pass down the baton of valuing traditional values to the upcoming generation.
The event was attended by 19 colony chairmen and secretaries.
President of Kohima Sumi Hoho, Shiwoto Wotsa, chaired the event and shared about the need to inculcate the value of festival celebration to the upcoming generation.
Commissioner and Secretary, Y. Kikheto Sema, the host of the festival, briefed the gathering about the significance of Tuluni festival and how it holds immense importance to every Sumi village and community.
Since Tuluni festival was primarily related to agricultural activities, he expressed concern over less engagement in agricultural activities in rural areas and urged the need to revive agricultural practices.
Kikheto also urged the citizens of urban dwellers to rededicate their efforts in their proficient vocations.
He further urged the Sumi community to foster unity among themselves and be an agent of change among other tribe. As the Tuluni festival was all about hygiene, hard work, and fostering community unity, he expressed belief that such traits will be exhibited in the Sumi community in particular and Nagas in general.
In the event, Rev Dr. Kiyeto Sema, pastor SABCK offered a special prayer for the Nagas and Sumi and Khekavi Yeptho, pastor SBCK offered the benediction.
