Three day orientation workshop organized by the Students Mobilization Initiative for Learning through Exposure (SMILE) concluded at the DUDA guest house in the state capital on August 13.
20 youths from different parts of the state took part in the workshop.
The resource persons for the programme were S. Peter, Youth Coordinator, SMILE, Assam, Rev.Iringte, Youth Secretary, NBCC, Kohima, Hekani, Director YouthNet, Advocate Lydia Yeptho, Dr.Abo Zao, Medical Officer, ART Kohima and Vibou, Journalist.
The topics for discussion were on personality development, Youth power for development, gender issue, True Love Waits, Social Analysis, Entrepreneurship, Is Government job the only way of livelihood, leadership quality, communication skill, Youth Employment Summit (YES), NGOs and Voluntary Organizations Movement, HIV/AIDS, Right to Information, Youth and Media followed by a charting out of action plan and evaluation.
Prof. K. Kannan, vice chancellor, Nagaland University (NU) was the chief guest on the inaugural day.
SMILE is a civil society Youth Movement in India supported and promoted by the Indo Global Social Service Society (IGSSS), New Delhi and is an alternate education programme for the youth. Campus training, orientation workshop, exposure programmes are some of the activities of SMILE through which it aims to sensitize and educate youth on various issues like health, environment, gender, human rights, child rights, legal literacy and land rights etc besides personality development, capacity building, fellowships for social entrepreneurs and youth innovators etc.
