Advisor of Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan inaugurated a common facility-cum-collection centre in Okotso village on Friday. Speaking at the inaugural event, Yanthan said that the village has the potential to promote fresh organic vegetables and fruits but lacked in storage facilities.
However, he was hopeful that the new centre, which was to aggregate and store produce from Okotso and nearby villages, will facilitate better market access for the benefit of the farmers.
Yanthan also encouraged the villagers to maximize production, as the collection centre would allow them to store their produces and eventually distribute their produce to other districts and markets.
He also urged the community to utilize the centre fully and achieve financial stability. District Agriculture Officer for Wokha, Sunep Longchar, encouraged the villagers to keep the facility stocked with fresh produce and urged them to reach out to him or the district agriculture office if needed.
Earlier, the event began with a dedication ceremony by pastor Rev. Zuchamo Shitri of AG Church Okotso.
The program was chaired by DAO Wokha Sunep Longchar, welcome note by Thechamo Ngullie and a vote of thanks from the building contractor, James Chumben Ngullie.
