Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMC), in compliance to the Urban Development Department notification, has banned “All Single Use Plastics (SUPs), carry bags irrespective of microns and All Single use Plastic bottles for water and soft drinks below 1 (one) liter” within Mokokchung Municipal jurisdiction from August 1, 2024.
In this regard, all individual, institution/commercial establishment (educational institutions, offices, hotels, shops, restaurants, religious institutions/faith-based institutions, industrial establishment, banquet halls etc) have been asked to abide the aforesaid ban. MNC cautioned that any breach shall be liable for penalties.
The notification further added that a penalty of Rs. 10000 for first offence, Rs. 20,000 for second offence shall be realized from the defaulters and for subsequent offence, trade permit shall be cancelled.
