Kitsubozou community building inaugurated

Newly constructed multi-purpose building of Kitsubozou Panchayat, was inaugurated by Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL), Chief Executive Officer (CEO), K Theünuo on Tuesday. Addressing the gathering, Theünuo reflected on the initial optimism surrounding Kohima’s designation as a Smart City, he expressed disappointment that the anticipated development did not materialize. He attributed the limited progress to the restricted scope of area-based development.

Theünuo informed that the Union Ministry had approved only 285 acres of land for development under the Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL), encompassing seven municipal wards: Midland, Daklane, D Block, Nagabazaar, Kitsubozou, North Block Keziekie, and New Market.

Originally, KSCDL proposed a project budget of Rs 1,000 crore to enhance infrastructure and promote a clean and sustainable environment in Kohima. However, the ambitious plan was scaled back to Rs 550 crore due to financial constraints, despite a revised funding ratio of 90:10 between the Centre and the State government for northeastern and hilly states.

Theünuo highlighted the completion of multi-utility community buildings in five of the seven wards, with work in the remaining two still underway. The projects’ size and funding varied depending on available land, with Daklane having the smallest and D Block the largest developments.

In Kitsubozou, the Panchayat received Rs 3.5 crore for constructing a building covering more than 7,000 square feet. Theünuo commended the local leaders, contractors, and KSCDL officials for the timely completion of the project. The new building features car parking on the ground floor, apartments on the first floor, and a community hall on the second floor.

He further informed that the community buildings would be managed and operated by the respective colony and ward panchayats, with revenue sharing arrangements in place until the project costs are recovered.

Theünuo urged the leaders of the seven municipalities to maintain the buildings properly. He expressed hope that the new facilities would not only provide essential services but also foster unity and cooperation among the leaders and residents of Kitsubozou.

The inaugural was chaired by Kitsubozou Panchayat finance secretary Aziebou Theyo, senior pastor of CBCK Rev Dr Kevekhalo Lasuh, pronounced the dedicatory prayer while Panchayat chairman Dzieseneilie Sachü delivered the welcome address and general secretary Atoulie Mechülho proposed the vote of thanks. Khriephrenuo Mepfhü-o enthralled the gathering with a special number. Newly elected ward-5 councilor Vimhalie Pienyü, former MLAs Dr Neikiesalie Kire & Medo Yhokha were among other leaders who attended the programme.
