Nagaland chief minister, Neiphiu Rio launched the World Bank assisted Government of India Scheme, Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP), at the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat, Kohima on August 27.
A DIPR report informed, that Rio in his speech, congratulated the department of Industries & Commerce for the successful launch of the scheme under the guidance and leadership of advisor, Industries & Commerce, Hekhani Jakhalu. He said many of the youths have availed immense benefits through the initiative of “Year of Youth Empowerment” and “Year of Entrepreneurs “.
Rio also informed that notable progress have been made through the initiatives of IDAN, incubation centres and Startup Nagaland. He said events such as the CSR Conclave and the G20-B20 meetings have further showcased the State’s growing importance. He also highlighted on the Chief Minister’s Micro Finance Initiative, which was introduced to provide financial support to businesses.
Mentioning that the government has made significant stride in empowering youth and entrepreneurs, Rio admitted the challenges faced by the state in addressing unemployment problem. However, he said that the state was now witnessing a significant shift in the policy trajectory of the Government of India, with a growing focus on MSMEs.
The chief minister therefore, urged the department to intensify their focus in this sector and provide the necessary support to entrepreneurs as they scale up through the RAMP project and other MSME related schemes.
Advisor, Industries & Commerce, Hekani Jakhalu in her opening remarks said the success of the RAMP could only be successful if all the 60 legislators of the state understand and personally reach out personally in their respective constituencies. She pointed out that the programme was important, since the economy and doing business in the state was not systematic due to lack of knowledge on accountability which results in losses. She however said that RAMP and UNNATI scheme programme, would teach the younger people to generate revenue through entrepreneurship.
Hekani further urged the chief minister, departments of Power and Road & Bridges for proper power supply and road connectivity for smooth functioning of the industries. Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Shanavas, C. presented about RAMP program through a powerpoint presentation.
