ICAR-KVK organized vocational training and capacity training programmes for the educated youths in Chumoukedima and Wokha on August 26 to 30, while KVK Longleng, under ICAR RC for NEH Region Nagaland centre, conducted animal health-cum-vaccination camp at Bura Namsang village, Longleng
A five- day vocational training on value addition of pineapple and ginger was conducted by KVK Dimapur at village council hall, Ruzaphema, Chumoukedima. Delivering keynote address, programme assistant Dr. Moanaro emphasized on the importance of creation of entrepreneurship through value-addition.
Different topics on food processing were delivered by the resource persons followed by hands on training. Sessions on the topics “Postharvest loses of Fruits and Vegetables” and “Processing of Pineapple and Ginger” was delivered by ICAR, NEH Nagaland centre scientist horticulture Dr. Aabon W. Yathan.
“Layout and Design of Mini Processing Plant”, “Hygiene and Sanitation required for Fruits and Vegetables” by Dr. Chingakham Sima Chanu. “Cost Calculation, Labelling, Packaging and Storage of Value -added Products of Pineapple and Ginger” by Assistant professor, Dept. of VSSD, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagaland University Dr. Anupama Bora.
Hands- on-training on preparation of pineapple squash, pineapple rts beverage, ginger candy, dried ginger slices, pineapple sauce, ginger paste was imparted to the youths.
The training programme concluded with remarks and distribution of certificates by senior scientist cum Head, KVK Dimapur Dr. Phool Kumari.

Altogether 30 participants including 24 youth were given practical experience.
Earlier, the programme was inaugurated with the welcome address by the course co-ordinator Dr. Chingakham Sima Chanu, SMS, Home Science.
ICAR-KVK Wokha: KVK Wokha, ICAR for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre conducted five days capacity training programme for the educated youths under the theme “Harvesting opportunities: Exploring Wokha based Agriculture ventures for youth empowerment in Agri. and Allied sectors”.
The resource persons were Dr. Moaakum Pongen, Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung, Dr. Mhalo Tungoe and Dr. Zuchamo Tongoe from KVK Wokha, Dr. Yanben M Kikon from department of Veterinary and Health Services, Wokha, Dr. Wonchibeni K Ezung from department of Health and Family Welfare, Kohima and Anuranjan from DC office Wokha.
A brief objective of the training program was delivered by Chief Technical Officer (A/Sc) Dr. Moa, and short speech by senior scientist and head, ICAR-KVK, Wokha Dr. Sandeep Deshmukh, who encourage the participants youth to explore and venture into different agri. and allied enterprises in the district for self-employment.
PBC Wokha farm manager Dr. Yanben M Kikon, stressed on the importance of exploring Artificial Insemination (AI) in pig services which can be taken up by any trained youth in the district. Stressing the importance of meat borne zoonotic diseases NHM, Kohima consultant
Dr. Wonchibeni K Ezung, highlighted different zoonotic diseases especially from meat and emphasis on the preventive measures. CTO (Agronomy) Dr. N Khumdemo Ezung encouraged the youths to take up cultivation of maize on large scale with proper scientific methods as an enterprise for livestock feeds since demand of feeds has been increasing every year. Various potential enterprises under agri. and allied sectors in the district were highlighted by Dr. Mhalo Tungoe, CTO (Agri. Extension).

Skill officer, DC office Wokha Anuranjan, emphasised on various schemes for entrepreneurial activities and encouraged the youths to avail the opportunities under agri. and allied sectors.
Altogether 25 youths, who participated the training program were handed inputs such as farm tool kits and vermi-beds. KVK Longleng: KVK Longleng, under ICAR RC for NEH Region Nagaland centre, in collaboration with Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services department and NSRLM Longleng, conducted animal health-cum-vaccination camp at Bura Namsang village, Longleng, on August 30.
A press release by KVK Longleng informed that during the camp, advisory services such as de-worming of livestock and poultry, sanitation and prevention of common diseases, etc were deliberated, while antibiotic powder, boluses, de-wormer, vitamin and mineral mixtures powder and liquids, antiseptic ointments were distributed to the farmers.
A total of 120 pigs were vaccinated with Classical Swine Fever vaccine, 78 cattle with Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccine, and 110 dogs with anti-rabies vaccine.
A total of seven surgical cases such as castration and hernia in dog, cat and pig were performed during the camp.
The camp and vaccination drive were carried out by SMS, Dr. Lily Ngullie, SMS, Shubhendu Kumar Behera, SMS, Kumari Pallavi, VAS Tamlu, Dr. Bongtok Phom, VAS (MVU), Dr Mophe Phom, DFS, Chuthei Phom, AC and Veterinary Field Assistant (VFAs), Manshong Phom, the release added.
