ATMA organises training and demonstration for farmers

Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) organised various training and demonstration programmes for the farmers to increase agricultural productivity in the state.


Medziphema: ATMA Medziphema Block Technology team led by BTM, visited Molvom village under Medziphema block on August 28 and conducted two demonstration programmes- “Demonstration on installation of Yellow sticky trap for control of Thrips and white flies in Pineapple Farm” and “Demonstration on Installation of Ant bait to manage ant population in Pineapple Farm”.


A press release by the block informed that amidst urgent need for control of Thrips and Ants infestation in the Pineapple farm, resource persons, BTM, Chubatsur Jamir and ATM, Nengkhonem, educated farmers on organic approach.


Altogether 18 pineapple farmers participated in the demonstration programme. Wokha: ATMA Wokha Chukitong Block conducted a demonstration on nursery seedbed preparation at Yimkha and a training on “Natural Farming” on August 28.


A press release by Block Technology Manager (BTM), Chukitong Block, Wokha, Abeni Patton informed that the first demonstration was on seedbed preparation at Yimkha by resource person, Assistant Technology Manager (ATM) Zachamo Humtsoe. He explained the importance of seedbed preparation and demonstrated the process. He also introduced natural farming, discussing its advantages and importance, and encouraged the use of local natural fertilizers.


BTM Abeni Patton demonstrated sowing of winter vegetable seeds with proper spacing.
Abeni informed that a training on “Natural Farming” was conducted at Yanthamo Village. She also demonstrated the cultivation of Oyster mushrooms, providing a step-by-step guide.


Altogether 13 farmers, three ATMA officials attended the programme at Yimkha, where seeds of winter vegetables were distributed to the farmers. Similarly, 11 farmers, three ATMA officials attended the programme at Yanthamo Village, where mushroom spawn, winter vegetable seeds were distributed to the farmers.


ATMA Niuland: ATMA Niuland conducted within district farmers training on “Principles of Natural Farming” on August 29, at ATMA office, Niuland. Resource person, BTM, Niuland Block, Demalu Hasnusa, explained that natural farming. The training included the preparation of bio-stimulants such as beejamrutham and jeevamrutham. Additionally, hand tools were distributed to 26 farmers friends under ATMA Niuland.


Noksen: ATMA Noksen Block Tuensang, conducted demonstration programme at Longtang village on August 30. A press release by the block informed that resource person, ATM, Wetosangla Chang demonstrated on Beejam Rutham method (microbial seed treatment), preparation of organic fertilizer, and raised nursery bed, and also highlighted advantages of nursery bed preparation, importance of seed treatment and uses of organic fertilizers.


Altogether, seven farmers along ATMA functionaries attended the programme, whereby winter vegetable seeds were later distributed to each farmer. ATMA Chumoukedima: ATMA Chumoukedima block organised demonstration programme at Tenyiphe-II village and Chumoukedima-A village respectively on August 29.


The first demonstration on the line sowing of maize var. HQPM-5 and black gram var NUL-7 was conducted in Tenyiphe-II village with Yatetla, ATM as the resource person. Later in the day, another demonstration on vermicompost preparation using HDPE vermibed, organic wastes, paddy straw, dry neem leaves and earthworm (Eisenia foetida) was conducted at Chumoukedima A village with Keneisanuo Keditsu, ATM as the resource person.


Altogether, 21 farmers attended the day long programme. Marking the program inputs like maize seeds, black gram seeds, hand held hoe, vermibed and vermin-worms were distributed to the farm women.


ATMA Meluri: ATMA Phek, Meluri block conducted a demonstration on “Organic cultivation of mixed vegetable crops”, at Lephori Village, on August 29. Resource person, Visapa highlighted the benefits of growing mixed seasonal vegetables as small-scale garden crop or large-scale market crop. He also demonstrated the use of sticky traps and explained the benefits against pests.


A demonstrated on the use of seedling trays for raising seedlings was also conducted on August 28 by BTM Hitoka. A total of 19 farmers attended the programme along with ATMA officials.
