Razeba Public Organisation (RPO), in collaboration with the chairmen of three villages and one mini-town, carried out a mass social work and renovation of PWD road from Pfutsero to Chilo, covering a stretch of 16 kilometers on September 2.
The event saw the participation of over 700 people, including well-wishers, contributing to the effort by cutting roadside grasses and filling potholes. A press statement from NSF informed that the Pfutsero-Chilo road, is a crucial lifeline for the people of the Razeba range and neighboring villages in Manipur, which has been neglected for many years. The road connects the villages of Zhavame (Vegetable Village), Tsupfume (Vegetable and Ground Apple Village), Zelome (Ground Apple Village), and Razeba (EAC Headquarters).
The release stated the areas collectively supply hundreds of tons of vegetables and fruits to various parts of the state and nation throughout the year.
However, with the onset of the monsoon, the peak season for supply has been hampered by the deteriorating road conditions, forcing many farmers to sell their produce at very low prices or face significant transportation challenges.
It further informed that the recent initiative was not the first of its kind. In 2021, local youth undertook a major road repair project, crowd-funded under the theme “My Road, My Future.”
The project, which took two months to complete, successfully repaired 13 kilometers of the road, with widespread support from the community and well-wishers.
The residents of Razeba continue to hope for intervention from the Nagaland government to improve road infrastructure, which is vital for exporting surplus produce and boosting the local economy.
