Western Sumi Youth Front (WSYF) has expressed concern over what it described as “mutilated stature” of NH-29—the main highway connecting the rest of Nagaland and adjoining states.
WSYF through its media cell asserted that the safety of NH-29 along its stretch has always been questionable, but the complacency of the agencies involved has “always been the utmost concern.”
The youth body maintained that the poor workmanship and its “never ending play” on the NH has cost multiple lives over the years raising severe standard and safety concerns.
“Who is to blame? Be that as it may, preparedness is a lesson depicted time and again to our authorities/agencies which had only turned a blind eye at the cost of human lives and loss of property,” WSYF stated. Admitting that natural disasters were inevitable, the front, however, said the consequences could have been prevented, mitigated or averted had the authorities responsible not have ‘go with the flow’ attitude. As such, WSYF said the crux of the matter was now an alternate route connecting with the state capital from Niuland via Ghotovi and Zhadima.
It said that safety and security along the route stood paramount as it had been a road less travelled and unknown by many, but only best viable option and hence serving as a saviour and relief to every traveller.
WSYF has lauded all the village authorities under Niuland district for their swift intervention and assistance during times of distress. WSYF has assured to extend support and cooperation to the law enforcement agencies and the general public in bringing about a positive outcome which would serve as a relief in this hour of difficulty.
In this regard, WSYF has provided contact numbers in case travellers needed any assistance on ground: Mughaka Chophy WSYF (8787733776), Botoho Achumi WSYF (8787617507), Juvito Chishi WSYF (9366489617), Ghotovi Village Council (9856768625, 9863055993 or 8837380430) and head GB Hovishe village Katoho Holo (7005915290).
Meanwhile, WSYF has expressed deepest condolences to the bereaved families on loss of lives and extended sympathy to all those affected by the disaster.
