The Indian Association of Physiotherapist (IAP) Kohima Unit observed “World Physiotherapy Day 2024” on the theme “Low-Back Pain and the role of Physiotherapy in its Management and Prevention” at NHAK Kohima on Saturday.

A press release by Dr. Vithoseno Iralu stated that, to commemorate the day, IAP Kohima unit organized a free physiotherapy consultation and awareness camp, focusing on the issue of low-back pain.

The association emphasized that low-back pain is the leading cause of disability worldwide and can affect people of all ages.
The crucial role physiotherapists play in providing expert guidance for managing and preventing low-back pain, thereby enhancing overall health and well-being was also highlighted.

IAP Kohima unit informed that physiotherapy has gained recognition as an effective treatment method, significantly reducing disability and patient dependency over the years.
However, there is still a need for greater integration of physiotherapy within the multidisciplinary healthcare system.

Physiotherapy is a comprehensive speciality that addresses a wide range of disciplines, including musculoskeletal, cardiothoracic, sports, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, neurology, geriatrics, and more.

The unit urged the patients to seek treatment from qualified medical professionals, rather than relying on untrained practitioners.
